If you have not realized it by now, BLACK is trending . We are on fire, basically LIT. We are finally receiving some of the recognition that we have always deserved. I am not sure why or how but I am thankful that is the current status quo, in spite of all of the obstacles we still face and must overcome. I am super proud of my people. Movies, Ryan Coogler - who directed Fruitvale Station, his newest release; "Black Panther" is the highest grossing superhero film from Marvel. Black Panther has the longest consecutive run at the top of the box office of all superhero movies in history. Coogler has everyone wearing Dashikis and trying to book flights to Wakanda. LOL. I am so proud and I think it is amazing.

Fashion, Virgil Abloh, an American - Ghanian designer, was appointed as Louis Vuitton's new Menswear Director - one of the only black designers ever appointed to the helm of a heritage fashion house. A Chicago native, he linked up with Kanye West in 2009, when they both interned at Fendi Roma and launched Pyrex Vision, which was discontinued after just one year. But Abloh was pushed into the spotlight. In 2013, he launched the high-end streetwear brand, Off-White. Abloh was also the art director for Jay-Z / Kanye West album, Watch the Throne, for which he was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package.

Also, in Fashion, Dapper Dan, Harlem's fashion patriot, has teamed up with Gucci and opened an appointment-only atelier. Their joint venture opened in January 2018, following years of mutual admiration and imitation. Although, in the ’80s and ’90s, Dapper Dan was ostracized and cast out of the fashion industry for using luxury brands logos without permission to create coveted pieces. Now look at him, making Harlem super proud to call him their own.
